Letter from Southeast Tennessee Executive Director, Julia Wright - May 2018

Did you know that 31% of home fire victims never wake up after the fire starts?  April's Inaugural Sound The Alarm campaign was a very successful one that brought a lot of new confidence and security to over dozens of homes in the quiet town of Red Bank, on the edge of Chattanooga. Southeast Tennessee Chapter Red Cross volunteers, joined by firefighters and community members, made an impressive showing to install 180 smoke alarms and bring a major element of fire safety to people who had none.

The Red Cross isn't stopping there.  We now need you to play a part in the #WakeUpChallenge. To make more Americans aware of the nature of home fire situations, we are asking everyone to play along with us and create a video of waking up friends or family members in a very fun, creative (but safe) alarming way. Then post the videos to your favorite social channels using the #WakeUpChallenge hashtag. By tagging friends and those in the video, the campaign spreads and creates momentum to drive up donations for the Red Cross to continue to install more smoke alarms in the homes of Americans here and all over.

If you are in need of a smoke alarm, contact your local Red Cross chapter.
