Local Residents Honored with Awards from Tennessee River Chapter

American Red Cross Recognizes Volunteer Achievements

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., May 26, 2023 – The American Red Cross Tennessee River Chapter recently recognized its exceptional volunteers who continue to work tirelessly to help people in need.  

 

“We are even more aware of the great dedication of our volunteers, whose support makes a dramatic difference for our neighbors in need,” Loriann Tinajero, local chapter executive director said. “In thanks for their dedicated service, we have presented the following individuals with Red Cross volunteer awards for the vital role they play in carrying out our mission in our community.” 

 

Bruce Felts, of Humphreys, received the Disaster Services Chapter Award to recognize his contributions in responding to house fires across 12 counties and following-up as a Caseworker.  Additionally, Bruce assists as Blood Ambassador for the Humphreys Blood Drives.  He is a constant support to clients across our community. “Bruce is dedicated, compassionate and always eager to support the mission of the Red Cross,” Tinajero said. 

 

Jan Thompson, of Clarksville, received the Regional Humanitarian Award to recognize her contributions in onboarding new volunteers and providing the support they need to be successful.  Jan has been invaluable in working tirelessly in our business operations for the Chapter.  “We pride ourselves on being a volunteer led organization and Jan is a true leader. Everything Jan touches, she does with her trademark enthusiasm, attention to detail and dedication to a job well done,” Tinajero said.  

 

Julie Bisgaard, of Clarksville, received the Chapter Humanitarian Award recognizing her contributions to keeping children safe.  Julie has reached out to our libraries and schools teaching children about fire prevention and safety.  She educates utilizing our Pillowcase Project and Pedro the Penguin books enlightening children and their families how to be safe.  “We are so grateful for Julie’s dedication to keeping children and their families safe in our Tennessee River Chapter.” 

 

In the Tennessee region, more than 2,000 people volunteer with the Red Cross by responding to home fires and other disasters, supporting blood collections, providing emergency assistance to military families, and much more. These individuals are among the more than 300,000 volunteers nationwide who comprise more than 90% of the national Red Cross workforce.
