Call to Action! Disaster Volunteer Training Day in Morristown

Volunteers needed to support local disaster response

MORRISTOWN, Tenn., March 6, 2023 The Morristown Fire Department and the Northeast Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross are joining forces to train volunteers to respond to disasters large and small this month. From July 2021 to June 2022, Red Cross volunteers responded to 24 disasters and assisted 32 families in Hamblen County by providing food, shelter and comfort to individuals and families in need. Volunteers also worked casework and helped with recovery assistance for local disaster volunteers.

Volunteers make up about 90 percent of the American Red Cross workforce, helping to make it possible to provide immediate support to our neighbors in time of need.

We ask for your help assisting our local community. As a Disaster Action Team Volunteer, you can respond to the scene of home fires and other disasters. Our volunteers provide emotional support, safe shelter, vital supplies, emergency assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. The Northeast Tennessee Chapter encourages community members to learn more about this opportunity.

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (one-hour break will be taken for lunch)
