Tis the Season,
As I think about this season of giving, no other team in the Red Cross gives more during this time of year than our Disaster Action Team. Being called out all hours of the day and night, even on Christmas Eve or Christmas day, they go willingly sharing their heart, willing to help whenever they are needed. So here’s to our DAT Captains and DAT teams across the Tennessee region! Happy Holidays!
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.
The DAT phone was placed by the bedside with care,
With thoughts of it ringing, making sure we’d be there.
The teams were nestled all snug in their beds,
As visions of CAC cards danced in their heads.
The Captain in his vest and I in my cap,
We all settled down for a peaceful winters nap.
When out on the street there arose such a clatter,
I jumped out of bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
I opened the shutters and threw back the sash.
The flashing lights lit up the night, on the new fallen snow,
Giving the glow of red to the objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Red Cross ERV pulled by tiny reindeer.
With a little ole driver dressed all in red,
With a DAT vest and a cap to cover his head.
More rapid than eagles they flew up the street,
Being first on the scene, a family to meet.
Now Captains, now DPSs, now DPMs …no more they all beg!
On Mary Beth, on David, on Joel, and Greg.
To the top of the hill barely missing the wall,
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all.
They arrived on the scene the entourage they flew,
And jumped into action they knew what to do.
They offered them shelter, and clothing…it cant be!
The best team in the nation are all from Tennessee!
