Summer is just around the corner and for many young teens that is the perfect time to begin a successful babysitting business to earn some extra income. The Red Cross offers two options for babysitting training, an online, self-paced class and a more in-depth, in-person training. Both courses are ideal for students ages 11 – 15. For more information about the online course, you can check out our website at redcross.org/take-a-class/program-highlights/babysitting-caregiving.
For the in-person training sessions, there are upcoming courses in the Nashville, Franklin and Memphis areas. Teens can gain the skills and confidence they need to become responsible babysitters, while also learning valuable lessons about infant and childcare.
In class, you learn how to:
- Respond to emergencies with first aid, rescue breathing and more
- Make good decisions under pressure
- Communicate effectively with parents
- Recognize safety and hygiene issues
- Manage young children
- Feed, diaper and care for infants
- Start your babysitting business
