Letter from Northeast Tennessee Executive Director, Glenda Bobalik - April 2015

Each year, April brings a feeling of renewal, hope, and appreciation as Spring arrives with a promise of sunshine, flowers, and warm days.  What a great time to stop and show appreciation for our volunteers who provide hope to the people we serve.

National Volunteer Week, April 12 – 18, is a time set aside to honor the volunteers who give their time to help people in need.  Over 300 volunteers represent the American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee.  They are part of a dedicated team that responds to fires, volunteers at Veterans Hospitals,  facilitates disaster preparedness presentations, plans and trains to work with partners, and so much more.  They help the community.

In the Northeast Tennessee area last year, volunteers responded to 319 local emergencies providing help to 821 families, assisted 288 military families with emergency communications services, facilitated preparedness presentations to 25,814 individuals and trained 12,346 people in lifesaving skills such as CPR and First Aid. Truly amazing!

We invite others to join the team.  Be a part of providing assistance when disaster strikes whether by responding directly or performing one of the many support activities required for a successful response.  Take an hour and deliver the lifesaving preparedness information to people in our community most at-risk when a disaster occurs.  Work with our veterans who need our help after serving our country so well.  There are so many ways to make a difference as a member of this dynamic team.  Contact us at 423-765-4222 or go to our website redcross.org/netn for more information on the volunteer opportunities available.

To those already members of our team of volunteers, we cannot express adequately how much we appreciate your dedication and commitment to serving our community by delivering on the mission of the American Red Cross.  You are indeed the heartbeat of our chapter.  Thank you.

Glenda
