FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn., Friday, May 2, 2014 — The American Red
Cross continues its major disaster relief operation across 11 states to help
over 23 million people impacted by massive flooding and destructive
tornadoes. After violent tornadoes cut a dangerous swath through Lincoln
and surrounding counties in Tennessee on Monday, the Red Cross mobilized
dozens of volunteers, opened an emergency shelter, and is working to ensure
that emergency needs are being met for everyone who was affected.
"Today, volunteers will continue to provide mobile feeding for emergency workers, clean-up crews and those affected by the storm," said Heart of Tennessee Chapter Executive, Mike Cowles. “We are also working with our partners in the community to assure that disaster victims receive all the services they need to aid in their recovery, and to deliver as comprehensive a response as possible. A major push will be the distribution of clean-up items to persons in remote areas.”

A box truck has also been stationed to
provide bulk clean-up items such as gloves, buckets, rakes, garbage bags

In addition, trucks will be circulating in
remote areas to provide bulk clean-up items to persons affected by the storm.
A
First Aid Station is open and available at Howell Hill Community Center (474
Old Lincoln Rd., Fayetteville, TN), for those who may need first aid.
The
Red Cross has partnered with the Salvation Army to provide food to disaster
victims. In addition to mobilizing three feeding vehicles, Fixed Feeding
Sites will be located
at:
New Hope Missionary Baptist Church
Corner of Smith Mill and Corders Crossroads

The
Red Cross is activating our partnership with Goodwill, and they will be
collecting donated items from the community. A Goodwill donation
trailer will be placed at 2762 Huntsville Highway, Fayetteville, Tennessee
beginning at noon on Thursday, and will be available through the weekend to
collect donations of items (i.e. clothing, furniture, housewares, etc.) from
the public. In exchange for the donations, Red Cross will be provided Goodwill
Cares gift cards that Red Cross caseworkers will use to meet the needs of those
affected by the recent tornado, who still desperately need help. These Goodwill
Cares gift cards can be used at any Goodwill store. The hours of operation for
the Goodwill trailer are:

In
order to help meet all the needs of the community, the Red Cross will also be
opening a Multi-Agency Resource Center, where those affected by the tornados
can meet with representatives of various organizations who can connect them
with the resources they need. The center will be located at:
